Shebeens are traditionally illegal drinking establishments of the past. Now they are also known as taverns and are great social places where people meet after work. These previously outlawed establishments are vibrant and fun and they are always at the heart of the local communities.

Calabash Tours take clients on unforgettable journeys into the townships where they experience the diversity of these places. After the journey through the townships your guide takes you to the carefully selected Shebeen where you can enjoy a meal and a drink with local residents of the townships. Clients are welcomed by our African hosts and get unbeatable hospitality and enjoy the electric atmosphere of these establishments.

Clients are advised to bring along the following:

• Cameras.
• Warm top as temperatures may drop in the evening.
• Small amount of cash for drinks at the Shebeen.

• Traditional African Dinner is included in the cost of the tour.
• Minimum of 2 clients is required for the tour to commence.
