Addo National Park 4x4 kabouga trail

Duration: 12 hour(s) - Location: Port Elizabeth / Addo National PArk

Alan Tours will pick up guests at their accommodation and depart in a 4 x 4 vehicle for the Addo Elephant National Park, Kabouga section (no elephants or lions). This is a unique experience and one will meet very few, if any, tourists in this part of the Addo National Park. After entering the park, we travel through increasingly rough terrain, always looking for species such as warthog and eland, red hartebeest, klipspringer, zebra as well as the stately kudu.

Guests and their guide will spend the day exploring the area while constantly heading north through changing scenery, and then into a valley where the tour will break at a campsite on the banks of the Sundays River. Everyone has the chance to stretch their legs or paddle on the quiet water in a canoe, while Alan Tours prepares a delicious picnic breakfast over looking the river. After breakfast the tour enters the 4 x 4 route section, where they will traverse undulating terrain, steep-sided valleys and rocky streambeds, ever alert to the birds and animals that inhabit the area. The group will have opportunity to stop at scenic viewpoints between challenging slopes, through which they need to negotiate the Land Rover. The tour then reaches the summit of the Zuurberg Mountains, offering excellent views of vistas both to the south, towards the coast, and the north, into the Little Karoo, Lake Darlington and beyond. From the summit the vehicle starts descending into the Little Karoo, where the guests must keep a watch for ostrich, zebra and the possibility of sighting a rare black rhino before reaching Lake Darlington. Here the group will unpack their picnic hampers on the lakeshore for a well-deserved late lunch before begining the journey back to Port Elizabeth through the farm roads of the Eastern Cape.
